When I design website, my “strategy” revolves around SEO. You might think this is weird and wonder “Why is he talking to us about SEO?”. Well, first of all, I’m going to give you an extremely generic overview of what SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is.

In general, when you have a website, it will be made up of content that will be referenced (if you want this content to be visible). In other words, it will be ranked in search engines like Google.

Thus, when you type a word to make a search, in the first page of results, there will be the result number 1, number 2, so on, then page 2, 3, 4 …

SEO will allow you to increase your visibility in the ranking of Google search results. The goal is to reach the first place when someone searches for content that is related to what you do.

So why am I talking about SEO right now? Simply because the issues of SEO and optimization will arise from the beginning when creating your website.

Thus, I want to show you that the different choices you will make in terms of hosting, domain name, CMS, theme and content, will directly impact the traffic that will come to your website.

SEO issues will therefore immediately impact the visibility of your website, the traffic, but also the conversions.

Make the right choices by thinking about the SEO consequences

Step 1: Choose a fast and solid hosting

In the different videos I will propose, I will always have this SEO issue in mind. Why? To better explain it to you, I will take an example of hosting.

There are a lot of hosting companies, hundreds, maybe even thousands. So what’s the problem? Well, unfortunately, they are not all equal. There are some that are more or less efficient, more or less good. In short, choices will have to be made. And by the way, this will be the case for all 5 steps of the creation of your site. The objective is, of course, to choose the solutions that best suit your needs.

So to come back to hosting, having an SEO approach will allow you to prioritize certain criteria over others, for example performance in server loading time. What does that mean? It simply means that when someone is on Google and they find your website in the first or second result, and they want to go to your site, if it takes too long to get from Google to your site due to slow loading, well people just aren’t going to wait.

It’s exactly like being in a restaurant and ordering a pizza and instead of it arriving in half an hour or 15 minutes, it arrives three days later. Now, three days is a bit of an exaggeration. But basically, you understand that the slower it is, the less likely it is that people will come to your website.

So load time is one of the SEO issues that you need to take into consideration from the start to ensure good results. Therefore, if you take a hosting that loads your website in 15 seconds even though you have done all the following steps correctly, no one will come to your site. This example is just to give you the intuition of the approach I’m going to take, trying to give you an SEO look when creating your website.

Step 2: Check your domain name history

Now, let me tell you about the domain name. Personally, I tend to think that a lot of people get very caught up in this subject, with questions like “Should it be “.fr”, “.com” or “.co”? Legitimate questions, but the impact is quite minimal in the end.

On the other hand, there are several things that you will have to pay attention to when it comes to domain names. Especially if your domain name has a history. For this, you will have to check what was previously on this site. Why should you do this? Because when you are going to buy this domain name, it is likely that it has already been used.

So, in some cases, you will have to give up buying this domain name because the activities that were done on it in the past might not have respected Google’s rules. In fact, if you buy a domain name that has been penalized in the past, you may be paying the price for what was done before.

So, I will always advise you to check the history of the domain name before you buy it. If you don’t check, you may be negatively impacted by something that is completely out of your control/responsibility.

Step 3: Adopt a CMS adapted to your needs and ambitions

For the CMS or “content management system”, it’s the same thing, I will have the opportunity to make comparative videos to show you the major differences. In essence, the choice of your CMS will depend on your needs. For example, in my case, the CMS that I will use to build my site in front of you will be WordPress.

It is an extremely powerful CMS. I will have the opportunity to make videos to explain why WordPress is a good CMS for what I am going to do. Next to that, there are people who are going to prefer WINXbecause it’s more suited to their use.

The choice of CMS is an opportunity to raise two important questions:

  • “What do you want to do with your website?”
  • “What are the perspectives you want to give to your site?”

Your answers will determine your choice of CMS!

Step 4: A theme that is not too heavy and with a good support team

Now I’m going to talk about the theme. There are thousands of themes on the Internet. Faced with the amount of choice, it is easy to get lost. From experience, I will recommend 2 that work very well. Of course, the decision is yours.

A theme is not the most important thing, because you can change it easily. After that, it’s better to avoid changing it all the time as it can totally destructure your website. But on the whole, I would say that it is not the most important element.

The theme participates in the elements that will make your website pleasant for the users. Simply, a little advice by the way, take a theme that is popular enough. And I don’t mean popular just to be popular. I don’t mean that at all. In fact, it’s better to take a theme that is going to be “relatively” popular, because it’s going to make your life much easier when you want to make changes, especially if you’re a newbie.

So, absolutely avoid themes that no one uses, because not only is there little chance that you’ll get good support, but you’ll also find very little content on the Internet / YouTube / blogs to help you.

Step 5: Feed the reader quality content

Finally, the last aspect of creating a website will be related to the “content” or in other words the content. So here, I will really have the opportunity to treat this topic in length, wide and through. Simply because there are many things to say.

For me, sEO and content creation should always go hand in hand. And to use the restaurant example, content is going to be the “food” you serve to your readers. So if the food you serve is not good, don’t expect to get a positive feedback.

I will always tend to talk about content creation and qualitybecause one should never go without the other. Knowing that, of course, the idea is to satisfy the users. We are talking about a virtuous circle. The more users are satisfied, the more Google will interpret these signals in a positive way by saying “Cool this website, the authors really do things right for their readers. Therefore, I will push this website up in my search engine”. The result will materialize for example, by moving from the second place in Google to the first.

Now I’ll show you how to create a website

Enough theory

You now know the 5 main steps to create a website! For me, the objective now will be to show you concretely the different steps. For that, I will make a lot of videos where I will give you a lot of tips and tricks.

I will try to really maximize the added value for you, by giving you the maximum of tips and shortcuts. Indeed, behind this rather simple little drawing with the little house etc., you can imagine that it is much more complex. So I’ll have to dig a little deeper into the subject.

The idea in this article is to give you an overview of the different steps to follow to create a website. But of course, each of these steps should be dug in depth.

Let’s get down to business

The best way to do this is to show you concretely how to do it. For this, I will create a website from scratch, as well as the business that goes with it.

So, if you have never built a website, you can do the same thing by applying it directly to your business. There is no better way to create your own website, extremely efficiently from the start! My videos / articles will really aim to give you a lot of added value.

The business I’m going to set up in front of you is going to be an SEO agency.

And I’m going to sprinkle some SEO into it!

During the various stages of creating my website, I’m going to talk to you about SEO on a fairly regular basis. Let’s just say that the core of my content will be SEO, but clearly, I’m not going to stop myself from expanding on other types of information like marketing, startup culture, etc.

So there you have it, you’re going to have a front row seat to building a business and a website, and I think that can really help you.

End of this first article that calls for many others. See you soon for the rest of the adventure!
